Little Rock Fashion Week

Little Rock Fashion Week
JULY 12-17 LITTLE ROCK FASHION WEEK IT!

(July 8, 2010) The second annual Little Rock Fashion Week (LRFW) will be held July 12-17 in downtown Little Rock. 2010 Fashion Week will feature local, regional, and national designers and boutiques. The week-long fashion event includes art, music, education, and of course, the best in local, regional and national fashion. Starting with a kick-off party for 18 and above at ¡Rumba!* on July 10, the week offers: a fundraiser for Little Rock charity, Watershed; a music remix-showcase celebrating local music talent; the "Art of the Artist" exhibit and cocktail hour featuring artist Christopher Youngstar; the education program: Fashion Industry Forum; and the two main feature fashion shows, Friday's Young and Fabulous, and Saturday's elegant fashion show, Posh Expression.

"We are the fastest growing fashion week in the United States. Our line up of events validates our growth," says Brandon D. Campbell, Little Rock Fashion Week's founder and executive producer. "My team and I have spent a year listening to the people in the community and worked vehemently to enhance an already stellar fashion experience. Guests will see these upgrades once they step foot inside the door to our events. There's an event each night that the die hard fashionista and the not so fashion conscious person can enjoy. We have assembled another great group of national and local designers and boutiques to showcase some of the best fashion lines you'll see this year. We offer the most authentic high end fashion experience with dashes of Little Rock ingredients."

In less than a year, LRFW has gone from a local extravaganza to a nationally recognizable fashion week. Since 2009, LRFW designers have received opportunities to dress international celebrities, have had clothes appear on hit TV shows and at various fashion weeks across the United States. LRFW 2010 features local and national runway models that came from as far as the Virgin Islands to audition for a spot in LRFW. Also, LRFW has attracted the attention from international corporations. Savers, Inc., an international thrift retail store that gives money to charities for clothes and merchandise, is an official sponsor of LRFW 2010. At Posh Expression, LRFW will honor the Dillard family, founders of retail giant Dillard's Inc., with its annual Fashion Icon Award.

The Posh Expression Show will be hosted by Alice107.7's Heather Brown of the Heather & DC Morning Show. The Heather & DC morning show is the most highly rated radio talk show in Arkansas. The Young and Fabulous show will be hosted by news anchor and radio personality, Dana Bradley of Power 92's Broadway Joe Morning Show. The Broadway Joe Morning Show has been a leader in the community for several years on Power 92, the state's number one urban radio station LRFW week is proud to welcome both Brown and Bradley to the runway!

Posh Expression Show Host Heather Brown stated, "So many people put their heart and soul into this week of fashion, and it's a blast to watch it all come together so successfully."

This year's line up of designers and boutiques include: LRFW 2009 Clothing Line of the Year NaJo Creations, by Little Rock designer Natasha Rawls; Anthony Lawrence Collection (ALC) by designer De'fron "Keith" Fobb, of Baton Rouge, LA; CH3MEX, by artist and designer Jose Hernandez, a Maumelle resident and a Torreon Coahuila, Mexico native; Christopher Youngstar, an Arkansas native raised in Little Rock, and the south's premier artist; Dillard's at Park Plaza Center; D.ooh by young Little Rock designer Dominic Hall; Laurella Designs by Pittsburgh, PA native, Laurie B. Allen, Fashion Week Cleveland 2010 Designer of the Year; The Fashion Vault, a Little Rock Boutique founded by Tonya Burton; Garic Stephens produced by Chicago designer Stephen Curd; The Nicole McGehee Collection, signature line by Dumas, AR native Nicole McGehee; Sag-N Inc. by Cloverdale Middle School teacher Brian Hinton; Little Rock's Sophisticated Urban owned by Jonathan Pruitt; and Strange Fruit Vintage is an online urban vintage clothing boutique by creative director and owner, Shalishah "Petey" Franklin.

LRFW is one of the few "experiences" in the world that merges fashion with entertainment. The first of its kind in Arkansas, it features regional and national designers' fall and winter fashions, exhibitions, musical performances and VIP parties. Founded by Campbell, Little Rock Fashion Week was established to showcase the talents of local designers, models and artists and connect them with national consumers, marketers and buyers.

STYLE EXHIBITION By Tiffany Tate

One of the best parts of my job is sitting in the front row of 3jay logo fabulous fashion events and witnessing the tremendous talent and creative designs of fashion designers - both established and unknown - that stimulate the audience and leave you hungry for more fashion. I recently attended the 2nd Annual Style Exhibition at the State Museum in Columbia, SC and was blown away! The runway was blazing hot with high couture fashions and intricate designs adorned by some of the most talented models in the southeast, each with their own fierce strut that dazzled the audience and kept photographer scrambling for more signature poses than you can imagine!

This year's designer lineup consisted of some of the most talented artists that are unafraid to take their designs to the limit and are destined to take the fashion world by storm. Believe me, I witnessed the show and was left in total awe. The Anthony Lawrence Collection by De'fron ignited the runway with the perfect blend of urban fashion and sex appeal. Sergio Hudson Southeast captured the richness of class, elegance and luxury. The John Ashford Collection elevated the art form of elite designs to a new plateau. Scripted Designs customized urban couture with a ready-to-wear line. Foxx Skynz by Design entranced the audience with daring designs in astonishing fabrics. Vintige Collection locked the runway with apparel that was innovative and fearless. T. Simone Designs showcased unique styles with sexy versatility. Kre'A'Shans was authentic with artistic inspirations. Go Realla Street Couture kept it real from beginning to end with flawless flow. Dushee International displayed resort wear created with a heavenly array of original hand-painted silk scarves that illuminated patience and grace. The show left the audience wanting more and eager for the show's return next year and I can barely wait.

The brainchild behind the event is a triple-threat in her own right. Jalia "Lia" Pettis, Owner and Visionary of 3Jay Productions, is not only a mother of an infant daughter and two young sons (who delighted the audience when they displayed their own smooth signature runway walk at show's end!), but she is also a model, HR professional and an entrepreneur with a vast cultural background in Japan, Hawaii and other locations that have fueled her drive and enhanced her extraordinary business savvy. Hats off to you, Lia! Job well done!

Stay tuned for more in-depth interviews with the designers later this season. Check out the exclusive photos at www.sotacmag.com and get swept away in a windstorm of fashion delight!
